Really? I should beware of dinosaurs crossing?
Most neighborhoods have caution signs on the road. They are yellow diamonds with black trim. This is one in our neighborhood. I can’t tell if it’s a joke or if there was ever a dinosaur excavation here.
Some of the signs are in words. If you’re under age 5, you have to ask your grown up what it says. But in pictures, all kids can tell what they caution for.
This one is,.....guess. Yep, a coyote howling. My mom tried to get me to recreate it but I didn’t feel like howling right then.
Deer hopping, yep. They’ll soon be back from wherever they migrate to because our snow has melted and new green is growing for them to eat. Drivers have to really be careful. Deer don’t understand roads and cars and the deer are always suddenly appearing! That’s why I’m learning to stop and look before I cross a road.
Elk, yep. Watch for elk. They’re even bigger than the deer. They’re gorgeous. And nice, gentle creatures. I hope I don’t scare them away.
By the lake, watch for the duck with all her ducklings following. It’s important to follow your parent.
Just like these ducklings on this caution sign, sometimes I don’t follow my parent well, but I’m trying to learn.
What about the caution signs in your neighborhood? What do they say to have caution for? Caution means watch and be careful.
Some books to recommend are “Make Way for Ducklings” and “Syd the Dinosaur.”
Who says you have to learn to read at age 5? I could read those by the time I was 3 or 4, and some people (Abigail) couldn't read that until she was about 6.
ReplyDeleteSo true. Everyone learns to read at different ages. You were quick!
