Why do tails wag? They wag because we’re happy! A tail shows just exactly how a dog is feeling. YOU can tell how you’re feeling with words but I don’t have words, so I show it with my tail. We usually wag when we’re walking, or when you’re petting me. We sometimes wag if we know we’re about to be given food.
The skin in our tail (under the hair) is pretty sensitive and most dogs don't like you to touch their tail, so just look with your eyes. I actually don't mind if you touch my tail, though.
What do you do when you're happy? Do you jump up and down? Shake your hands? Smile and run around? Give someone a hug? What do you do instead of wag a tail?
